Peking duck: a Chinatown ordering guide

A roast-duck meal often built around crisp skin and a set of accompaniments.

What is it?

Peking duck is a dining format as much as a dish: roast duck is served with accompaniments that vary by restaurant. The way it is carved, the portion offered and the surrounding menu can differ. Check the specific restaurant’s description rather than assuming every duck meal will be presented in the same way.

How it fits into a meal

Make the duck the anchor of your order. Ask how many diners the restaurant expects a portion to serve, what accompaniments are included and whether additional dishes are suggested. Then choose sides that bring contrast. Ordering several large dishes before understanding the duck portion can leave a table with much more food than intended.

At the table or on the go

Verify advance-order requirements before the visit. A table reservation does not always reserve a particular duck preparation. Mister Jiu’s publishes advance arrangements in its FAQ, while Z & Y Peking Duck has its own reservation information. Read the current details and confirm directly with the restaurant.
